Books I Read: A Year of Learning, Escapism, and Growth:
As 2024 quickly comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on the books that have shaped my year. Reading has become more than just a source of entertainment; it provides moments of self-reflection, learning, and exploration of other worlds that transport me beyond my own little bubble.
This year, I set a goal to read more diversely, exploring new genres and challenging myself with both classic and contemporary works, while also including a bit of fantasy.
Here is a look at the books I read this year, ranging from captivating novels to eye-opening and memorable non-fiction.
The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo:
The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo is a dark and atmospheric novella that weaves a tale of magic, mystery, and complex characters. Set in a world where the supernatural and the real intersect, it follows a seemingly ordinary protagonist who discovers a hidden world of intrigue, danger, and unearthly forces. Bardugo expertly balances the eerie with the familiar, creating a tension-filled narrative that keeps you on edge. Though The Familiar is brief, its emotional depth and exploration of its characters' internal struggles make it a compelling read. If you enjoy dark fantasy with a touch of psychological depth, The Familiar is a worthwhile read.
